Joseph Philmon
I consider it a privilege and honor to work with various populations of people such as adults, young adults, couples, families, groups, and adolescents. Throughout my career, I’ve learned many lessons which have prepared and equipped me to work with a range of clients during different seasons of life and life transitions. I’ve learned that the human experience is a gift and upholding the dignity and self-worth of all people must be a cherished value at all times. Also, I’ve learned that people possess incredible resilience to build agency and self-determination for their lives. I firmly believe that with the appropriate support and resources everyone has the capacity for growth, healing, recovery, and transformation for an improved life. At the same time, our lives today present so many demands and stressors and everyone deserves the emotional/mental health tools, strategies, and skills to reach their potential. My goal is to assist clients along their life journey toward success!
Over the years as a counselor/therapist and case manager across multiple settings, my area of focus has been helping clients solve their problems and achieve their treatment goals. I have extensive client experience working with issues including stress management, relationship issues, family issues/dynamics, life transitions, grief/loss, conflict resolution, anxiety/depression, problem-solving, codependency, parenting, career counseling, substance abuse/addiction, and anger management.
Utilizing a strength-based perspective and leveraging existing protective factors, my clients find my approach to be growth-oriented, empowering, empathetic, creative, comprehensive, warm, and adaptable. In a collaborative and non-judgmental space, clients learn to thrive and gain courage and insight to address life issues in new and healthy ways. The clinical specialties commonly used are Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered, Stages of Change, including modalities that cover systems, behavioral, mindfulness, solution-focused, and insight-oriented approaches, while being mindful of biopsychosocial factors that influence clients.
